Its’s officially Monday and the start of the last week of the month of April! Yikes! Where did the time go? Yet another week has come and gone in the blink of an eye. You know what that means….it’s time for another weekly rewind. This week there’s been a lot of ground to cover…
The month of April is National Autsim Awarness month! It’s a month dedicated to continuing the conversation and educating the community about autism. On April 2nd, World Autism Day, President Barack Obama made a proclamation from the White House recognizing it declaring that “everyone deserves a shot at opportunity.” The day celebrates the work of advocates ad family members and serves as means to promote inclusion and acceptance.
This week on April 22nd was the annual commemoration of Earth Day 2015. There were forums and conversations about the state of our natural habitat and the effects of our daily activities on the planet we call home.
In light of this year’s celebration, head on over to my post about the history of the day and some suggestions on how we could “Go Green” in our every day activities.
This brings me to a few articles I read on the environmental impacts of the fashion and cosmetic industries, and brands working to change the game. Check out Glamour magazine’s article in their April issue as well as the short movie Unravel, by filmmaker Meghna Gupta who follows the path of hundreds of pounds of discarded clothing all the way to see what really happens to our discarded or “donated” garments.
In keeping with the spirit of Earth Day and limiting waste I tried my hand at a new recipe using overly ripe bananas. Stay tuned for Chocolate Banana Nut Bread recipe inspired by ABC’s “The Chew” host Michael Symon.
This month is also Testicular Cancer Awareness Month which coincided with the Testicular Cancer Awareness Week which began on April 1st. Be sure to check out the coming post on this disease.

No More McDreamy? Did Shonda Rhimes just commit television suicide killing off Patrick Dempsey’s character on the critically acclaimed medical soap drama, Grey’s Anatomy?! Yelp! Only time and the ratings will tell..but in other Grey’ news…the rumor mill is buzzing with why Dempsey was ultimately ousted – and let’s just say Ms. Rhimes is not here for any of that sass! As Ellis Grey would say “… the carousel never stops turning.”
With Fox’s Justified now off the air with the close of it’s final season and we have bid adieu to Sons of Anarchy, what will be next for the network? Sigh. Only time will tell as we wait for the new season of Empire
(*sic!* I know my guilty pleasure!) Hmm..Backtstrom isn’t bad either…
It’s official John Stewart’s last day at the helm of The Daily show will be August 6th as announced by the host who held his post for the last 15 years. His replacement? South African hottie and funny man, Trevor Noah! OH how I look forward to this next chapter!
TvLand’s newest project, Younger, based on the life of a forty year old starting over as a millenial in New York City; starring Sutton Foster, Hillary Duff, Debbie Mazar, Nico Tortorella and Miriam Shor; has been picked up for a second season.
And does anyone know what’s going on with single ladies? The show once my addictive summer fallback premiered quietly and has hardly made any major noise? Do any of you know what’s going on?
Jay-Z has officially launched Tidal to mixed reviews and wavering welcomes. It is still left to be seen how things shape up but best of luck to the rapper who is known for being quite business man.

Barney’s debuted a Met Gala Themed capsule, by Chinese designer Huishan Zhang. The designer fused Chinese culture with Western fashion concepts most apparent the a four-piece capsule collection inspired by this year’s Costume Institute exhibition, China: Through the Looking Glass. He used the color red, the dragon motif, and China’s lucky number eight, even incorporating a dragon motif on the tank dress, all of which are a nod to his homeland.
Rosario Dawson launches clothing brand, Studio One Eighty Nine, with her longtime friend and business partner, Abrima Erwiah, at Opening Ceremony. Native Amazonian tribe, Awa-Guaja faces hardship due to habitat depletion. According to Brazil’s National Indian Foundation, the Awa-Guaja’s way of life is being threatened by relentless loggers who are illegally encroaching on their land, the tribe had never really had contact with the outside world but as their home continues to be destroyed they are being forced to adapt to a harsher and unfamiliar world. Loyal Starbucks patrons received a gift from the coffee gods this week after the Seattle-based coffee company’s point-of-sale computer system suffered an outage that affected stores in the U.S. and Canada on Friday afternoon and evening. The outage made big news as baristas around the country, unable to ring up transactions, started giving away coffee at no charge. The company announced that it would be closing early to tend to the problem. Doors were reopened by Saturday morning and systems corrected…so coffee feigns – no more free coffee. 🙁
This past Friday, ABC aired the exclusive Diane Sawyer interview with Bruce Jenner’s since it was first revealed he was in the process of a sex change. Jenner admitted he never wanted to hurt any of his family members, especially his estranged wife or any of his children, including his step children. He also admits to now truly be happy and at peace. All the best to him in finding his happiness.
Art meets science when artist Diemut Strebe and stem cell scientists grew a clone of Van Gogh, the tortured Dutch artist’s left air, yes, the same one he cut off, by using stem cells generated from tissue donated by a Van Gogh relative in a bioreactor over the course of a year. Still unsure how I feel about this.
Taking a look at the week ahead, how can anyone not help but be excited about the most expensive boxing match – none other than the highly anticipated bout between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, which has the sporting world and all the net ablaze with predictions, bets and overall enthusiasm for the fight of the year!
