Weekly Rewind

Hey again guys,

Can you believe we’re already half-way through the first month of 2016!? Geesh where does the time go.

So getting back to one of my original features of the blog, I thought it would be a good time for a Weekly Rewind to catch up on all the happenings of the past week and some.

So, here we go.

I haven’t been to busy on the ‘gram lately as my life has not been all that crazy with my least favorite season in full swing.

The Blog

As promised I have made a conscious effort to be more active on the blog and to work on building this experience into one worthwhile.

il_340x270.896902427_gk3pCan you believe it has been one year since I decided to take the plunge and begin this blog!?! I celebrated this milestone with an extra special #FunFactFriday by sharing a few personal fun facts.

  • An important #FunFactFriday about the importance of Blood Donation in honor of Blood Donation Awareness Month and sharing a few interesting facts for any of you who would be interested in getting involved.

  • On Demand Tv is In – with streaming services killing the nominations at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. Ratings numbers are through the roof and Netflix, with a line-up of more than 20+ original shows due out this year alone, and let’s not forget Hulu and Amazon Tv doing their thing, cable may soon be obsolete. Hint, HBO has already gotten onboard with the idea of being a solely streaming service.504412260-actress-taraji-p-henson-poses-with-the-award-for-best.jpg.CROP.rtstoryvar-medium
  • Taraji P. Henson’s won big at the Golden Globes becoming the third African American Woman to win the Award for BEst Actress in a TV Drama;
  • Shameless is back and well – more shameless than ever with more crazy off the wall antics and plot lines than one can even begin to imagine!

  • Music Superstar David Bowie passed away this week at the age of 69 after a battle with liver cancer. May his talents and music will always live on. bowie_aladin_sane_1000px

  • The Revenant finally took up speed at the top of the box office list last weekend beating out Star Wars: The Force Awakens which had sat at the top since it’s December 18th release. This momentum could only see improvements after Leonardo Di Caprio’s win at the Golden Globes – and now 12 Oscar nods, including Best Picture, Best Director (Alejandro González Iñárritu), Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), and Best Supporting Actor (Tom Hardy), but this is an exceptional hold.2015-12-16-1450300622-8118374-Star_Wars.png
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens has fallen to the third place in this weekends box office listing but this comes after 5 weeks running strong and in the wake of The Revenant‘s big wins and nods. That however has no effect on it’s earnings though as the film has hit $1 billion overseas and is aimed at grossing ~ $2 billion worldwide, so no worries!Jennifer-Lopez---InStyle-Cover-2016--01-662x903.jpg
  • JLo keeps it young and fresh on the February cover of Instyle magazine and tells of some of her secrets to her continued youth, happiness and success.
  • With all the controversy and debate around #BlackGirlMagic – from Elle‘s (maybe ill-advised feauture article “Here’s My Problem with #BlackGirlMagic” by Dr. Linda Chavers and Ashley Ford’s rebuttal “There is Nothing Wrong with Black Girl Magic” for the same publication), to the twitter comments and “conversations”, Essence magazine chose to emphasize the hashtag’s significance to Black culture by highlighting some of the awesome black girls who are currently being great!

p.s. don’t miss Amandla Stenberg with her #BlackGirlMagic on the cover of Teen Vogue.

  • January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Get Educated. Get checked. Know your family history. Protect your eyes.

  • Twitter users now able to view periscope videos without leaving app. So yea for catching up on all the cute videos in the world you love to see.

  • So finally those Hedi Slimane rumors can be put to rest – earlier this year the rumor mill was abuzz with news that Creative Director for the Fashion Houe, Saint laurent was leaving the company – however that has since been debunked.
  • Stella Mcartney celebrated with her Pre-Fall 2016 bash where celebrities were out in their numbers, and featured live performances by Pink and even Johnny Depp, showing off his musical chops;

  • Jason-3, a U.S. – European Satellite has launched from California and will measure the shape of the global sea surface to an accuracy of better than 4cm. It will also track currents, tides, winds, wave heights, and will help forecast the intensity of storms. But with a new mission of also maintaining the reference data-set on sea-level rise as a response to continued Global warming. Thus far it shows the world’s oceans to be rising at more than 3mm per year!

  • You can now fly to Europe for less than $200 using Icelandic airliner Wow Air. Created by a former Silicon Valley techie all flights connecting to several major European cities go through Iceland. You can now take that Euro trip without breaking the bank. Your options for flying out of the U.S. and Canada are still pretty limited as flights only leave from Boston, Washington, Toronto and Montreal, and now Los Angeles and San Francisco.

A Look Ahead

Tomorrow, January 18th marks the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s 87th birthday. The federal holiday is marked as a day of remembrance of the late religious and civil rights leader’s legacy and contributions to American History.

Hope you guys are enjoying the long weekend, and hope you have a fulfilling and productive week.

Hugs and Sunshine,

Today is an AMAZING day for me. It’s officially been one year since I began this crazy journey! I can’t even believe it! Thank you all for your continued support.

With that being said today’s #FunFactFriday is an extra special one! In the spirit of growing with the blog, I decided to make this a bit more personal by sharing some fun facts about myself.

Yeek! I know.

Hope you all enjoy getting to know a bit better.

Fun Facts

I’m undoubtedly not a morning person. I love the night time – I thrive on late night work binges.

I can’t STAND the cold but I love my city! Go figure!

Though I love my denim, I do have an addiction to summer dresses (maxis, minis, midis -) you name it – I love it. They’re just so comfortable.

I’m the Queen of French fries – correction potatoes!!

Despite my love for the ultra carb – I also loooovvee veges – matter of fact, I love food. Period. Sadly my diet can be limited by my allergies.

Favourite stores to shop at are Zara, Forever 21, Banana Republic, The Loft, The limited, Joe Fresh and J Crew Factory, just to name a few.

I HATE running…I would do any other form of cardio…heck I’d take a light jog but all out, full on sprinting…uh…that’s a no. Sucks that running a marathon’s on my bucket list though, so there’s something for me to get over.

My must have makeup item is mascara. I’ve always been told I have really nice eyes so even on my no make-up days I’ll always ensure to put on a few swipes just to help my eyes pop.54ffd0060c8d0-mascara-2-origmaster1

My favorite color is purple. Any shade you can think of.

Tea. Not coffee – it does not agree with me, however I do love me a good pumpkin spice latte in the fall or iced caramel frap. in the summer!

Favorite lip shade –  red – matte (MAC Ruby Woo I’m looking at you) or nude. Typically I love my good old lip balm, if it’s got a subtle hint of color, like the Burt’s Bees ones, even better.

some of the shades that I would wear

I love cooking, if that can be considered a hobby.

Guilty pleasure – ratchet TV. i.e. reality television – *cover eyes* I know. I know. *sigh – or anything chocolate, preferably Nutella.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you guys enjoyed this one.

Hugs and sunshine,

Weekly Rewind

I trust everyone has been having a productive and exciting summer!

Thankfully it has not been a typical New York City summer of mugginess and near breathlessness from the humidity and heat. Whew! I am always so grateful for the rain these days even though on those days I don’t get to enjoy my summer sandals and my fresh pedi – but it is a worthy sacrifice.

Let me start again by saying thank you for checking in and sticking with me even though I am not always on here! I love hearing from all of you.

So without anymore fan fare, let’s get into it!

I hope you all had an amazing holiday weekend and have been able to take in or enjoy some of the awesome summer activities that having been going on in your respective cities!

Therefore, let me start by saying, (albeit, late):

Happy Independence Day

With that said, let’s go!

Power Opening Title
Power Opening Title

The last few episodes of Starz’s Power have been incredibly dramatic and are building to one hell of a climax – which possibly might be a cliff hanger season finale. If so, then hang onto your seats because you just don’t know what to expect with this one.

All you history buffs – have you guys checked out Tut? Yet another one I’m going to be adding to my list.

Spoils Before Dying Poster
Spoils Before Dying Poster

Have you guys checked out The Spoils Before Dying on IFC. I’ve been meaning to catch up and see if it’s any good. What do you think?

This one will take all millenials back to their childhood days because it has been reported that a reboot of ” Xena: Warrior Princess” is in the works with NBC. Oh-EMm-Geee!!! *Sorry! Flashbacks!

And the Emmy nominations are in!  Last week the nominations for the 2015 Prime Time Emmys dropped and boy oh boy is it interesting. While many of the shows and actor nominations are returning hits from years prior, this year brings a number of new programs and actors into the fold. This year we see a number of new entrants, including AMC’s Better Call Saul, a spinoff from AMC’s hit, Breaking Bad, portraying actor Bob Odenkirk, new streaming TV originals, like Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and actors getting their first – and much deserved nods, including Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany, Viola Davis, How to Get Away With Murder, and Taraji P.      Alaska Governor to expand Medicaid. After failing to convince his his legislature on the necessity for expanding Medicaid, Governor Bill Walker of Alaska has decided to unilaterally accept federal funds to cover the approximately 42,000 low income residents who would benefit from the program. The Governor sees this as a “common sense” decision as it benefits not just the economy of the state but the general wellness of the population if more people have and can receive affordable benefits and coverage. I concur.

Planned Parenthood Logo
Planned Parenthood Logo

Planned Parenthood President apologizes for comments made in video. After secret video recording surfaced of Planned Parenthood official, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director of Medical Services, discussing how the organization provides tissue from aborted fetuses to researchers, Conservative motions for tighter restrictions including elimination of federal funds, kicked into high gear again. Even speaker of the House got in on the action saying, quote, “I think i would vomit trying to talk about the video”. Theses comments and anti-family planning rhetoric prompted leader Cecile Richards, President of The Planned Parenthood Federation of America, to issue her own video response, as well a an apology for her colleague’s “lack of compassion”. The official remains employed by the organization but has since been “reprimanded”. But, ha enough really been done to curb public outcry and the drone of the Conservative argument?

“Illegal Activity” clauses leave some insured, “uncovered”. In a growing number of cases, several insured and /or their family members who were injured in a “criminally negligent manner” have been refused coverage or treatment, even though said individual were not charged or convicted of any wrong doing – all due to a legal loop hole! How, you may ask. Simple. Several policies hold “exclusion clauses” that allow the insurer to deny coverage if it suspected that an injury was obtained from drug or alcohol use, felonies, self-inflicted trauma, or “hazardous” or “high-risk” behaviors. The decision to deny these claims are based on the administrators opinions of the matter and allow the insurer a great latitude. The court have upheld these denials as well – even when there has been no conviction – negating the burdens of “beyond a reasonable doubt”. These denials have left several insured in debt and in some more severe cases have resulted in fatalities after patients succumb to preventable conditions. And yet the cycle continues…

contraceptive methods
Contraceptive Methods

Courts rule that, Contraceptive coverage, is not a burden on religious organizations. The federal United States Court of Appeals for the 10th circuit, in Denver, took a bold stand last Thursday issuing another win for Obamacare and it’s initiative to provide contraceptive options for women. The judge decided that the option to provide contraceptive options for women they cover under medical insurance can “opt out” of providing them the service and that this in no way hinders their ability to uphold their religious practice nor makes them complicit. The decision issued another blow to challenges presented by the Roman Catholic church and their Little Sister of the Poor, order of nuns.

Another Ebola fatality reported in Liberia. In Monrovia, Liberia, a young woman who was part of the list of individuals who had been in contact with the 18-year old who was the first reported fatality after Liberia’s May 9th declaration of being Ebola free, died shortly after being admitted to an Ebola treatment unit. She is the 2nd fatality. An investigation is being conducted to determine why it was not reported that the young woman had become symptomatic while under quarantine.

Tory Burch wins big in copyright trial. The designer has been awarded $41.2 million after winning a trademark infringement lawsuit against Lin & J International Inc., who the designer successfully proved had copied her trademarks and designs. The judgement, which was made by the US District Court on Friday, draws a line under a battle between the two brands that started in 2013 when Burch “sent a representative to Lin & J’s showroom in New York and that representative was shown a variety of knockoffs and told the minimum order was $350,”.She also “identified a wholesaler in Alabama who pointed to Lin & J as their supplier of thousands of units of fake jewellery.”Following initial legal proceedings, Lin & J then unsuccessfully countersued Tory Burch, accusing the New York-based company of “unfair trade practices, defamation, trademark infringement and other claims.”  The breakdown of the awarded amount equates to  $38.9 million in damages and $2.3 million in legal fees.

Italy makes € 20 million U.S. fashion bid. ITALY is said to be announcing a €20 million initiative to strengthen its relationship with the US regarding textiles, fashion and leather goods exports. This move has been encouraged by Italy’increasing exports to the US (which last year totalled $5.6 billion), and the country hopes to profit from “the ever-influential youth culture” since 34 per cent of the US population of 315 million is under 25.

LVMH, which owns the Zenith, Hublot and Tag Heuer watch brands, hopes to make the most impact with its new device in China, where it wants to focus on “winning market share, rather than being driven by specific sales and profit targets.”

Making the rounds in this news cycle:

Two African American women both found dead in their cells while in police custody, less than a week apart of each other. As family and friends of Sandra Bland began asking tough question around her mysterious “suicide” death while in police custody, after being booked during what should have been a routine traffic stop, the news broke that another African American woman also in police custody had died under the same strange circumstances. 18-year old Kindra Chapman was found unresponsive in her cell after being booked for first degree robbery. This is the third such death of a young African American woman whilst in police custody ruled as an apparent suicide by the respective officials, recall the 2014 death of mother of three Kimberlee King who was found hanging by her shirt in a cell in St. Louis? Her family is still seeking answers around her peculiar death. It begs the question can this seriously be coincidence?

In other U.S. relation news;

Cuban Flag raised at the Cuban embassy in Washington
Cuban Flag raised at the Cuban embassy in Washington

Cuba raises her flag in Washington at the reopening of the Cuban Embassy there. The opening of embassies in the U.S. and Cuba after approximately 54 years of embargo and tense relations between the two nations comes after an agreement struck last year putting aside decades of hostility came into force. This marks the formal restoration of diplomatic ties, and improvement of international relations within the region. Despite the historic shift, both sides admit to lingering difficulties. A flag will not be raised at the American Embassy in Havana until Mr Kerry pays a visit there on 14 August.

Making it’s way around the international news circle:

Greece pays the 2 billion arrears to the IMF. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that Greece has cleared overdue debt repayments of €2.05bn (£1.4bn) and is no longer in arrears. The repayments, and another for €4.2bn to the European Central Bank (ECB) due on Monday, came after the EU made Greece a short-term loan of €7bn. Earlier on today, Greek banks reopened after being closed for three weeks. However, many restrictions remain and Greeks are facing price rises with an increase in Value Added Tax (VAT). VAT is rising from 13% to 23% meaning Greeks will pay more on a range of goods and services, including taxis and restaurants. Below is a brief synopsis of the Greek Financial deal:

Greek Finance Deal
Greek Finance Deal

For the past three weeks, Greeks have been waiting in line at cash machines to withdraw a maximum of €60 (£41) a day, a restriction imposed amid fear of a run on the banks. From Monday, the daily limit becomes a weekly one capped at €420 (£291), meaning Greeks will not have to queue every day. However, a block on transfers to foreign banks and a ban on cashing cheques remain in place.

Bomber massacres activists in Turkey. A bomb attack has killed at least 28 people and wounded nearly 100 others in the Turkish town of Suruc, across the border from the Syrian town of Kobane. Officials say the explosion may have been caused by a female suicide attacker. The blast targeted a group of young people who planned to travel to Kobane to assist with rebuilding. Kobane has seen heavy fighting between Islamic State militants and Kurdish fighters. Turkish authorities believe IS may be responsible for Monday’s attack. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned the bombing and described it as “an act of terror“.

Amazing finds

On the ‘gram if you follow me you would have caught some of my many adventures, like this rainy day find. I thought this broken clock was amazing – found it on my walk through my neighborhood while on my way to run errands.

Felt like sharing my mani and my awesome ring party one day before heading out and don’t forget my bit of adult humor with my Throwback Thursday.

The Astronaut Wives Club premier was surprisingly good. Although,  I found the progression a bit slow and some of the females characters a bit tawdry but who knows what time will tell.

The return of Fx’s summer hit Tyrant for it’s second season left many at the edge of their seat after last season’s finale and had me personally wanting for more – can’t wait to see what else is in store.

As the Mistresses 2-hour premier opened whirlwind back stories and revealed major plot twists one big thing was missing -Savi! Sadly as the show’s production moved to Montreal Alyssa Milano decided she would not continue on and sadly her character was written out of the script with a tear jerking exit. The premier ended with one heck of a cliffhanger and also introduced a new polarizing character – more deets as the season continues!

Comedy Central is adding a new scripted show dated in a whole other time period (bad joke intended). The series, Another Period, whose pilot premiers this week will star comedic acts Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome.

Cookie Lyons – I mean Empire actress, Taraji P. Henson, who portrays matriarch, Cookie Lyons on Fx’s ht series, “Empire” was hospitalized for what her rep. has noted as exhaustion. The star herself also joked about her hospitalization as a sign of simply, “doing too much”, and even referenced a line from the shows last season, “Don’t worry y’all I’m a tough cookie! HA! I will be just fine.

Dra-medy (drama – comedy), Dope, written and directed by Nigerian-American Rick Famuyiwa; writer and director of afro films like, The Wood and Brown Sugar; and produced by Pharell Williams and Forest Whitaker, also the narrator; made it’s world debut this past weekend. The film which featured familiar faces like A$ap Rocky, Kimberly Elise, Zoe Kravitz and Rick Fox, premiered with strong box office stats, coming in at number 5 and raking in $6,100,010 (USA)  since it’s  June 19th release.

President Obama with comedian Marc Maron for an on the "WTF" podcast
President Obama with comedian Marc Maron for an on the “WTF” podcast

     Major news network were in a pickle this past week when deciding to cover or air an interview done y the POTUS on the “WTF” podcast with comedian Marc Maron, where President Obama spoke candidly when he addressed the long history of racism in the United States. The quote that had so many outlets, like Politico, CNN and Cnn.com, The New Tork Times and the Associated Press, along with television networks ABC and NBC News, in a tiff;

Racism, we are not cured of,” Obama said. “And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say nigger in public. That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don’t, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior.

While some platforms chose to bleep or censor the n-word out CNN as well as the Associate Press and the New York Times which picked up AP’s story, chose to run the interview in full with the quote unedited. The logic, “We wanted to avoid any unsuspecting rip and read of our story resulting in ‘n—–‘ getting on the air,” according to AP spokesperson Paul Colford, “Our reasoning was: It’s the president talking, and using that specific word to make a point,“.

James Horner, a hollywood film composer for films like Titanic, Braveheart, Star Trek, A Beautiful Mind, Field of Dreams, Apollo 13 and Avatar died in a tragic plane crash near Santa Barbara, California. The 2-time Oscar and Academy Award winner was 61.

The lineup and venue for Atlanta’s Music Midtown Fest has been announced. Headlined by Sir Elton John, who has played every other venue in the city would play his first full concert at Piedmont Park, and he would be joined by other artists like, Drake, Van Halen, and Sam Smith who also hold headliner sets. Amongst those to also make the bill, a robust parade of mainstream heritage acts, well-regarded current hitmakers and a smattering of upstarts: Lenny Kravitz, Hozier, Billy Idol, Alice in Chains, Panic! At the Disco, Run the Jewels, Jenny Lewis, Tove Lo, August Alsina, Icona Pop, The Airborne Toxic Event, Kodaline, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, Elle King, New Politics, X-Ambassadors, Jamie N Commons, Colony House, Rozzi Crane, Alessia Cara and Elliot Moss.

For all the lovers of 90’s and early 2000’s R&B the return of musician, D’Angelo with his latest album, Black Messiah, is a refreshing drink of water in an arrid desert.

Say what you may about Taylor Swift, hate her or love her, she sure knows how to stay in the news. The country singer turned pop artist has take tech giant, Apple to task, one week before it’s new music streaming service, Apple music, launches. In an open letter, the artist called out the billionaire company for it’s unwillingness to pay artists in it’s three-month free trial period for the service’s users. Swift, who had the top-selling album release last year with “1989” in the fall and boasts 59.2 million Twitter subscribers, has become one of the most vocal celebrity critics of the business of music streaming, swiftly (pun intended) moved to have all of her music including her hit album 1989 blocked from the  company. If there should be any indicator that she doesn’t bluff, Swift who had previously lamented the general effect of piracy and streaming on paid album sales, removed her music from streaming service Spotify last November.

Taking pointers on the “spotify” sitch with Swift, Apple exec, Eddy Cue quickly responded with the following tweet:

Swift who says that her decision to withhold her album, “is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success…“.

Since Apple’s response, she has been quoted expressing how elated she was at the decision and looks forward to the company’s negotiation for higher payouts to royalty holding at the end of the 3 month period, which was it’s initial plan.

Since then the pop stars’s fans including boyfriend, DJ Calvin Harris have tweeted their support. Good work Ms. Swift.

Jott uses an AirChat feature to allow users to send data and texts without a connection to the Internet. Jott uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios to create a closed network with other devices that are within 100-feet of each other.
Jott logo -the app is an AirChat feature to allow users to send data and texts without a connection to the Internet. Jott uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios to create a closed network with other devices that are within 100-feet of each other.

Ever heard of Jott? Me either. But this amazing new messaging app is making the rounds. With a whopping 500, 000 monthly users and one million app installs after just three months on the market, and may soon rival apps like whatsapp, snapchat. etc. with one simple twist, you don’t necessarily need to have internet or phone service connection or even a phone!

          So how does it work?

The apps CEO and co-founder explained.

The app’s AirChat feature allows users to send data and texts without a connection to the Internet. Jott uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios to create a closed network with other devices that are within 100-feet of each other.

Jott also features social media must-haves, including stickers, screen shot detection, disappearing texts and photos. The app also offers advanced security measures. Unlike YikYak, another popular messaging app for teens, Jott users have to provide their real names, birth dates, phone numbers or e-mails and location to gain access to a school network.

Though the app currently has major fans in the middle school highschool crowd, with virtually the entire customer base for Jott is made up of 13 to 18 year olds, an intentional marketing demographic, which has helped Jott close a $1.8 million seed funding round from several prominent venture capital firms.

However, teen texting is not all the apps founder hope it will be used for, in the future, Allgood believes that Jott could be used for more than just teen texting, envisioning it as a potential life-saver during a natural disaster.

Although it wasn’t built specifically for emergency communication, the founders say it could easily be adapted for that purpose.

“When cell phone towers go down and your texts no longer work, Jott messages will get routed through because it’s devised through the device,” Allgood explained. “You could be on top of Mount Everest or on an airplane completely disconnected and yet still be able to send text messages.

Come Fall 2015 as the new semester and Fashion Week spring/summer 2016 roll in, Fordham University, here in New York,  will roll out it’s new Fashion Law degree program. I haven’t gathered all the details yet but this should be incredibly interesting to say the least.

Former Mulberry creative director, Emma Hill has announced that she will soon be introducing the world to her own accessories line, Hill and Friends. A collaboration with Georgia Fendley – also hailing from Mulberry, where she was brand director – the label will launch at a presentation in London Fashion Week in September, with product being available to purchase the following day from its own website and Net-A-Porter. The brand reportedly plans to add ready-to-wear to its offering later down the line, but is currently focused solely on accessories while looking to secure two retail outlets on home turf in London and Stateside in New York.

Proenza Schouler sells stakes, securing funding from Castanea Partners, in a move long rumored to happen. The deal, of which details have not been disclosed, will see the private-equity firm join exisiting investors who purchased a 50 per cent stake in the brand from the Valentino Fashion Group and others in 2011.

Isabel Marant found herself embroiled in a plagiarism row, after the indigenous Mixe community in Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca, southern Mexico have accused her of copying their traditional dress for pieces in her spring/summer 2015 Etoile Isabel Marant collection. Also, fellow French fashion house Antik Batik have laid claim to the Marant design and are currently in the middle of legal proceedings of their own. Isabel Marant, however, insists that its founder and designer has been open about the origin and inspiration for the design and is hoping to credit the Mixe community herself.

It was one heck of a news week last week that left me wondering if for a second I had stepped into the twilight zone.2015-06-24 19.51.18

Also making the news this week was the mass shooting in a historic Charleston, SC church where nine were killed by an armed gunman, in what is perceived as a racially motivated act of violence. More as the story unfolds. Till then pray for the families in mourning and the people of Charleston. #Blacklivesmatter2015-06-19 05.12.40

In international news; there has been continuous violence against Hatians and Dominicans born to Hatian parents in the island state of the Dominican Republic. Coming to a head there has been issued a decree for a “Social Cleansing”of sorts with mass deportations, marked by stripping Dominican born Hatians of any citizenship and would displace more than 250,000 people, many of whom are second generation Hatians and have no ties the language or culture of the neighboring nation.

More from around the web:

So, it seems like medical science is at it again with a vaccine for chlamydia in the works. Now this is not the first time a vaccine against the sexually transmitted infection has bee proposed but there seems to have been some extremely great breakthroughs this time around. The vaccine won’t be available for human testing for a few years, but trials in mice showed that a nasal spray elicited an immune response against chlamydia for up to six months.

And making history, a French teen becomes the first female on the of MLB’s international list.
