Golden Globes Review

As promised I have gone ahead and completed my review on my favorites from the Golden Globe Awards.

Admittedly, this year has had some of the better styled awards show red carpets, thus far. However, I can honestly say that I was sorely disappointed by some of my all time faves – looking at you Lupita, Jemima Kirke and the queen of slayage…JLo?!

Before we get into my favorites, here’s a little history.

The idea for an annual award in recognition of excellence in movie making was born after the December 1947 luncheon of the then newly formed Hollywood Foreign Correspondents’ Association at the Roosevelt Hotel in honor of Harry M. Warner of Warner Brothers.

Since it’s inception the awards have grown to encompass all facets of film and television.

Now onto the good stuff!

First up, Ms. Lupita N’yongo…I would like to first start by saying that I love this gorgeous, chocolate woman’s style, however this was one of the most disappointing looks she has worn to an event and I am seldom ever left wanting more from her. While the color is absolutely gorgeous and complements her complexion, the “blooming” bodice added with the volume from her hair are just too “busy”. Her simple sort cut would have far better emphasized what I consider a beautiful gown…

Next is another one of my favorites, who like Lupita, can often do no wrong, Miss Emma Stone. She  gave me everything in her stunning Lanvin jumpsuit! The simple, clean lines with just the hint of shimmer from the beaded bodice and modest accessories, make this understated look truly elegant and a knockout! Another win for Ms. Stone.

While Mrs. Amal Clooney is new to the Award scene, she has made a name for her self as a stylista in the past months since the announcement of her engagement and marriage to George Clooney. However this look was truly dismal to me.The gloves are far better suited to a diplomatic dinner. Losing the gloves and her hair pulled back into a sleek center parted bun would take this look from mediocre to stunning. Better luck next time…

Reese Witherspoon stuck to her classic aesthetic and kept it simple a strapless silver, shimmery gown that complemented her figure and complexion. Her side swept hair made her truly regal and classy! Looking far from Wild here… Always a win!

I always love a couple who complement each other, and The Imitation Game’s Benedict Cumberbatch did just that in his perfectly fitting navy suit alongside Sophie Hunter whose dress was truly gorgeous with the subtle print – a stunner against the backdrop of the red carpet.

Win! Win! Win! I truly adore the whimsy in this gowns floral design with the colors forming a complementary contrast with the deep blue shade. The simple sweetheart neckline and simple accessories played up her natural beauty, I am not too sure about the milkmaid crown braid though…

Simple, asymmetrical shapes, and great color made Jenna a standout. Not to add she had one of the hottest accessories to boot…why I’m referring to her darling husband, Channing Tatum, of course, who was her stylish equal for the evening in a complementary dark Dolce & Gabbana tux and adorable bowtie.

Camila Alves gave me Jackie Kennedy grace and elegance and I must say that she continues to amaze me on the red carpet! Wins all around!

Understated, natural beauty with a beat to match allowed Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba to continue to shine. I love her style choices and she did not disappoint!

The on trend cut and the color gave Sienna’s gown life. Paired with her gorgeous bob…I could not find a fault even if I tried and is I did then I would just be blind…

Anna Kendrick blew me away with the resplendent pattern of her gown, simple makeup and minimal accessories…just wow!!

Next, would be my number one…Ms. Kerry Washington!! While she has received some flack for her out of the box approach to her style for this red carpet…I for one am a fan. The colors not only complement each other but allow her natural beauty to shine through, highlighted with natural looking makeup. I love the textures, and that neckline and fit…amazing!

Oh my my…normally one to start a conversation with her stunning looks, this outfit fell flat for me. The hair is debutante, and the gown has far to much going on…Ms. Lopez I look forward to your other award looks;

Ms. Viola Davis is always one to wow me and as expected I was not disappointed. The color is amazing as well as the simply gorgeous design and fabrication. And although I still have not recovered from the wig coming off for How to Get Away with Murder, I am loving the hair too!!

Simply elegant. With this truly amazing color and hair cut, Maggie Gyllenhaal gave award winning style! Very much The Honorable Woman.

Amy Poehler despite being the funny gal, gave me glam in her simple cobalt gown and gorgeous baubles. Altogether..AMAZING!!

Finally a look from Lorde that was not goth punk princess and dare I say with her hair pulled back and her simple suiting in her atypical dark palate, she was absolutely beautiful!

One of the youngest trendsetters in a custom gown from Armani for which she is the face of their Junior brand, Ms. Wallis was truly adorable!! Win all around!

While the Fashion Police crew might not have thought this was a win…I think that Rosamund looked amazing and carried the gown with such poise. She’s definitely in my red carpet top 10!

New comer Gina Rodriguez of Jane the Virgin, kept it simple and stunning with a shapely gown in black and amazing jewelry for the right hint of sparkle to take home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series- Musical/Comedy!! Yay!!

And let’s not forget the fellas! They came out in the numbers and in some of their finest garb.

First up, David Oyelowo looking sharp in his elegant, sparkly blue suit perfectly coordinated with his wife Jessica’s gorgeous ornate navy and gold gown. Stunning!

Followed by Jake Gyllenhaal, who, like sister Maggie, kept it simple in a black suit by and accessorized with his now ever present full facial for a truly magnificent appearance.

I can not do a post on all the dapper gents without making mention of  Eddie Redmayne who was accompanied by his new wife in his marvelous velvet suit and Chopard watch.

How could I not make mention of Jared Leto who stood out in his white suiting with a black satin lapel. Losing the “mun” (i.e. man-bun) for the night and instead rocking an awesome braid, along with those baby blues..and he was definitely a winner!

To round it all out for the guys is none other than Mr Christian Grey, himself…whoops… I meant Jamie Dornan, who was joined by his gorgeous wife; with the amazing pixie; on the carpet as well. Might I add the striking resemblance between Jake and Jaime…hmm?! (p.s. I think it’s the beard!)

For many, like myself, the awards are not just about the pomp of seeing our favorite celebrities decked out in designer duds and jewels, but also watching some of our favorite works in film and television being recognized for the excellent work by their industry masterminds. So congratulations to all the nominees and award winners!!

Do you guys agree? Tell me who you think should have been mentioned.
